TheLeadership Council for Women in National Security (LCWINS), established in June2019, brings together a diverse, bipartisan group of female leaders in national security -- along with a number of strong male allies in the field -- to push for change. Using the power of the acclaimed and accomplished leaders on our Leadership Council and AdvisoryCommittee, we will use our ideas, connections and experience to insist on the prioritization of gender diversity and promote concrete solutions to the national security gender gap. We are not a research institution. Our model is to use our collective authority and our leverage to hold leaders accountable for meaningful change.
LCWINS is seeking an entrepreneurial Executive Director to lead our efforts to improve national security by ensuring that women, in all their diversity, have fair representation at the decision-making table. The Executive Director is the key management leader of LCWINS. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization.Other key duties include fundraising, external and internal communications, advocacy and community outreach. The position reports directly to the LCWINS Board of Directors.
The ED will be hired as a contract consultant with LCWINS’ fiscal sponsor, the Pacific Council on InternationalPolicy. One of the ED’s initial responsibilities will be to manage the transition from LCWINS’ fiscal sponsor to a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization, and then will work with the Board of Directors to convert the role from a contract consultant with no benefits to a full-time role with benefits.
Key Roles & Duties:
- Works with the Board to fulfill the organization’s mission.
- Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. The ED executes the fundraising strategy with the support of the Board of Directors and executes and active grants program.
- Responsible for the fiscal integrity of LCWINS, to include the budget, accounting, coordinating audits, producing quarterly financial statements, and fiscal management.
- Responsible for overseeing LCWINS’ programmatic work.
- Administratively responsible for coordinating LCWINS’ committee work, including LCWINS’ Initiatives Committee, Invitations Committee,Fundraising Committee, and others as needed.
- Coordinates execution of LCWINS’ strategic plan and revisions as necessary, produces implementation plans and executes those plans to achieve LCWINS’ strategic goals.
- Responsible for hiring, retention and oversight of competent, qualified full-time and part-time staff, contractors and vendors.
- Primary spokesperson for LCWINS, done in coordination with the Board.
- Active and visible in the national security community, working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations doing similar or complementary work.
An Ideal Candidate’s Qualifications:
- More than 10 years work experience in one or a combination of the following sectors: non-profit, national security, fundraising, communications, gender equity and parity.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- High-level strategic thinking and planning skills paired with an ability to execute.
- Experience with identifying and writing grant proposals.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting.
- Proven ability to successfully lead and manage a team.
- Resides in or near the DC area and available for in-person meetings and events.
Minimum Professional Qualifications:
- 7 years work experience in one or a combination of the following sectors: non-profit, national security, fundraising, communications, gender equity and parity.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
- An ability to work with minimal supervision and strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience working with senior leaders and principals; Strong network of relationships in the national security space.
- Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
- Previous leadership and management experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including familiarity with grant proposal writing.
- Legal status to work in the U.S. is required.
- Ability to travel to DC as-needed.
